GSEO and UW GEAR UP host the 2012, 2013 and 2014 Science and Engineering Festivals
April 6th, 2012

GSEO and UW GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) hosted the 2012, 2013 and 2014 Science and Engineering Festivals in Yakima, Washington. The festivals included hands-on presentations from biomedical professionals, scientists, engineers, and STEM businesses; a VEX robotics competition; and workshops. For a brief overview, watch this video.

The 2013 festival included bilingual talks, including:

Cintia Gill: America's Childhood Health Epidemic;

Dianne Figlewicz Lattemann: What is Type 2 diabetes? Que es diabetes del Tipo 2?;

Johnnie Orozco: My Career Pathway and How I Got Help Along the Way Mi Camino a la Medicina y Los que me Ayudaron;

Marissa Vignali: Washington State: a Terrific Place to Stop Malaria El Estado de Washington: un Lugar Fantastico para Detener a la Malaria;

Rosa Solorzano: Jobs & Health Care related to STEM: Minority Opportunities in Healthcare

GS presents Genetic Variation is the Spice of Life booth at the 2012 and 2013 Seattle Science Expo
August 9th, 2013

On a sunny Saturday in June, GS grad students, postdocs and GSEO staff presented a hands-on booth at the 2013 Seattle Science Expo at the Seattle Center. Activities including putting your own genetic traits on the genetic traits tree, examining models of proteins and DNA, and creating a Punnett Square of wild and mutant fruit flies.
